Do I Have To Brave The Sun?

Oh, mother of crapsticks, it’s gotten hot around here! I was enjoying the cool spring, but after some storming on the solstice, summer has begun in true and unquestionable form! Yesterday, I asked the girls if they wanted to come out and grab a cache with me. They both understandably passed on leaving the air-conditioned house. Therefore, I set off alone. Luckily, there was a cache not too far away from home that was simple enough to get to and find, but the Spear of Apollo took its lunges at me as I did it. It was near a microbrewery, but it was early enough that they may not have been in full swing yet, so there were no lookie-loos in what I would normally consider muggle-rich territory.

I feel like I have done little of note lately. That’s not to say I’ve done nothing. It’s just that I haven’t done much of the county caching that I’ve become known for (and enjoy so much). As I’ve mentioned previously, sometimes real life gets in the way. There are things I should have done last year that I have to do now, and I can’t justify getting back out on the road until they’re done and over with. It makes me sad to have to wait. But I also know that it won’t last forever. There are plans in the works. It will be a little bit before they can go forward, but I am so ready to do the thing again. It’s been far too long. I know caching isn’t always about far-off places and distant vistas. Often, it’s about your own backyard (metaphorically speaking) and how it enhances your everyday life. Believe me, though: I could sure use a distant vista right about now. Preferably something farther north where they consider an eighty-degree day to be balmy. I would love to be driving up fourteeners in Colorado right about now. But alas, real life and stuff…

This weekend, I’m going to be working on a cache-placing project with a friend. While the girls are otherwise occupied, I’m going to help scout out some places for hides commemorating a well-known international service organization. I know there’s a little bit of a gray area when it comes to such things. We’re not supposed to shill for businesses (which is why I have a lot of Tram-Law caches across many states), but other types of organizations are sometimes promoted. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are notable ones, but they are more in line with the mission and intent of geocaching (heck, they even have caching badges that can be earned). So, I’m not entirely sure what’s going to happen, but more caches out in the world can’t hurt (as long as they’re not low-quality crap). So maybe I won’t be out on the road in the greater sense, but at least I can do a little something good in my own backyard.
