Oh, happy day! Callooh! Callay! Or some kind of crap like that! Last night, the girls and I went to an Event hosted by friend of the blog Buckandi. After seventeen years, he has hit ten thousand caches! About twenty-five of us (some alone, others with spouses) gathered to have dinner and drinks and to laud his accomplishment. The Event brought out friends and even pulled in some cachers I’d never met before. It’s been a while since I met any new cachers around these parts. I think new cachers may be intimidated by the idea of Events. I know I was when I started out. But I put that aside and celebrated along with the rest. Besides, I was just happy to find a “real” cache.
I have felt a little dirty for the last few days. For a couple of days, my cache of the day was an Adventure Lab. I’ve mentioned this before, but even though a Lab is a real cache, somehow, it feels lesser to me. I don’t know why, though. All a Lab is, is a melding of a Virtual and a Whereigo. Virtuals are totally legit. Whereigos are totally legit. And yet Labs feel different. I’ve used them as my cache for the day before, and when I do, I grab two or three so that I feel I’ve accomplished a suitable task. But for a couple of days, I only found one to achieve the goal. I feel like I’ve been half-assing my entire obsession. Am I getting fatigued over here? Has the heat of the Texas summer begun to take a toll on me (I sure hope not because it’s only just started)? Is there something else going on that I’m not even picking up on yet? Not a clue. All I can say is that it was nice to get a real cache again. I’m even looking forward to shaking off my cobwebs (can you have cobwebs after two days?). How am I going to make it to ten thousand myself if I don’t?

Sounds to me like you need to jump in the car, crank up the Clash and go grab some caches. That will surely clear out the cobwebs. At least it works for me.

You expressed exactly my emotions and thoughts regarding Adventure Labs! I love doing them, but a part of me feels I’m cheating somehow by not signing some sort of physical logsheet (even though the answer setup on a well-done lab can be very exacting and satisfying to accomplish).
