The drive out to the council office was stupid. It was on a wooded road into a private parking lot, but the entrance was about a quarter mile from where the address was located. If you drive to the address, you end up at the edge of a wooded hillside on a major thoroughfare. You can’t even see the entrance road unless you backtrack, and there is absolutely nothing to mark or distinguish it for what it is or where it leads. It’s almost like they don’t want to be found. Why didn’t they want to stick with something like …

… this? Why couldn’t they keep the council in the old Litchfield County Courthouse? Besides being far more interesting, it’s in the center of town and would provide more of a sense of continuity. Unfortunately, I know the answer. The land that the old courthouse is on has been leased from a local family for over a hundred years. Because it is no longer being used as a courthouse, the property is reverting to the family of the original owner, according to the New York Times. Even if the courthouse only dates to the end of the nineteenth century, what a waste.

The fellowship converged outside the courthouse on the town common. We discussed what cache to get, talking about a Virtual on the edge of town and an older Traditional a bit of a drive away, ignoring the Whereigo we were sitting on top of because nobody could get the cartridge to load. Well, I did. And while there was still discussion, I told everyone to hang tight as I started walking back and forth about the common from monument to monument. It didn’t help that in places, there was ankle-deep water from the rain we’d been having all day, but I managed to stay out of the deepest puddles, mostly dry under my dependable umbrella. Unfortunately, some of the monuments were so old that pertinent information had worn down enough to be smooth and unreadable. Fortunately, the CO had designed all the location questions to be multiple choice. It would have been tragic to get nine of ten locations but have one impossible to read, research, or guess. With all questions answered, I was given coordinates about a mile and change away from us. I jumped back in the car, and after a quick driver change (Krissy4884 took over driving duties for Kittydcota), we were off!

We followed the coordinates to the head of a little wooded walking path, and Krissy4884 and I went for a short walk off the path to a tree and a well-deserved victory. We put ink on the log and set off again, heading for…
