Wednesday evening was a happy affair for a silly reason. I avenged an old DNF. The silly part was that it wasn’t that hard of a cache. I knew exactly what it was, but I had gone back to look for it four different times over the last few years. I just couldn’t find it, but I knew that other people were doing so with little difficulty. The key to the dilemma was just as silly: the cache was about fifty feet off GZ. When there are fenceposts in the right place, well, it’s difficult to find a black cat in a dark room, especially when there is no cat. But a fencepost farther away had a string poking out from under the cap. So, the logbook was finally signed after all those attempts. Little victories are still victories.
Thursday evening, I went out to get some caches that would soon disappear when I got a phone call from the CO, Bigguy In Texas. She was at a pub nearby when she noticed that I had found one of her caches and invited me to join her and some other cachers for dinner. A contingent (TTO2, ZSteve, and KidWrangler) from North Texas was making hides here in Austin in preparation for the upcoming Leap Day Mega-Event, GeoLeap 2024. When is an Event not an Event? When it’s an impromptu get-together! We caught up and discussed plans for Leap Day. The restaurant served poutine, so you better believe I ordered some for the table! We discussed how our children or grandchildren were no longer little ones getting into mischief. We consumed a few glasses of wine and beer. It turned into an unexpectedly long evening, a lovely time with lovely people. But all good things must end. They all had to get some rest to continue hiding today. I had to rest because of my job and all. But, barring weirdness, I will be back in the park on Saturday. The girls will be visiting, and we’re going to work on the park together for a while.
