833. Torrington, Goshen County (WY02)

I found the Goshen County Courthouse to be a little odd. Not because of the building itself, mind you. I was just in a strange state of mind. Driving into Wyoming from Gering, I felt that, while western Nebraska was looking like Wyoming, eastern Wyoming was looking too much like Nebraska, which made me think something was off. In addition, I swung through a restaurant to get some food, and the employees there were really nice. Eerily, suspiciously nice. Like a Minnesota nice that reeks of insincerity, but it’s not entirely fake.

Consequently, I was on my toes as I approached the building. I saw what I felt was a disappointing entrance, so I drove around the block, hoping to find a better portal. When I came around, I came around. In reality, there was nothing odd about the building. It was a classic piece of Classical Revival with an extension built onto it. Once the courthouse business was attended to, I set myself to a cache.

It didn’t take long to find it, and I have to admit I was impressed with this excellent example of urban camouflage. I had to wait a few minutes for a lingering, bike-riding muggle to continue on his way, but once he did, it was easy to sit beside a fake drainage pipe at the base of some public art and unscrew the top. The cache was a trackable hotel, but none of the trackables listed were present. Someone else had logged it earlier in the day, so I could only assume they had taken them and hadn’t gotten around to logging them out yet. I dropped in a couple that I had brought from Texas, and it was done. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. With that, I mounted up again and set off west. I was ultimately turning toward Denver, but I took a slightly longer route so that I could first pass through…
