845. Farmington, Davis County (UT05)

The “courthouse” once again confirmed that I am just not fond of the so-called administrative center.

The fact that it is built directly behind the old, retitled “memorial” courthouse just brought that feeling into relief. Davis County was one of my more important goals. A Multi-cache I had gotten in Kyle started here, but it didn’t feel like I actually had a find here. I could finally correct that.

The cache itself was nothing special; it was a quick park-and-grab near a grocery store parking lot. If only the caches in Salt Lake had been that easy… But that was no longer important. With cache and courthouse, I had one last thing to accomplish here in Farmington. You see, there are four Webcams in the Salt Lake metro. One was too far south of downtown for my purposes. A second had thwarted me, thanks to University of Utah sports and muggle levels over 9000! A third one was here in Farmington near the entrance of a local mall, and with the daylight beginning to fade, this would probably be the best opportunity to get one. I arrived just after sunset, and after a few minutes, I set off to where the camera would be pointed. According to the cache page, the camera refreshed every five minutes, so it would be a short wait. In reality, it was every fifteen minutes, which isn’t long when you have time on your hands, but it felt like an eternity as the light of the sun was slowly fading. But finally, after refreshing the camera page enough times …

… ecce homo! Was it worth it? Sure it was! Especially considering my next decision. Walking back to the car, I realized I had spent much more time in Farmington and Salt Lake than I had intended. With my tight schedule, something probably had to give. I might have been able to do everything I planned, but even if I did, I would be showing up at the airport pretty much with no time to spare. Especially after missing my original flight into Denver, I was not going to take a chance on missing my flight home. I looked at my options: I could chop off two counties, saving two hours and leaving a hole in my map, or I could chop off four counties and save five hours, removing not only some nighttime mountain driving but also the temptation to dip my toe into Idaho. I knew I was returning to Salt Lake again for several reasons and that I had already failed to keep my all-too-tight schedule. Cutting those four counties would probably be the wisest course of action. But I still had a little bit of time to decide as I made my way to…
