While it’s rare for me to attend multiple Events on the same day, it’s a non-zero occurrence. Yesterday was non-zero as well. I hosted an Event at a local taco place in honor of International Postcard Day. I cracked open the Big Book of Events and once again laid it bare for everyone. Fate offered me a surprising swag opportunity for the assemblage. While doing some clutter-busting last week, I found a bag of postcards. When I worked at a comic book and stationery shop many, many, many years ago, I got some postcards that I thought were cool to eventually send to people. The fact that I still had them all these years later put the lie to that plan, so I offered them up to the attendees, and a few of them took me up on the offer. There were familiar faces, several of whom have appeared in previous pages I’ve penned. I had gotten a few “Will Attend”s from newer cachers, but I fear that life may have gotten in the way (as it is wont to do). Regardless, all of us engaged in a little taco diplomacy. But instead of talking long past the official end of the Event, everyone began to slip off a bit early to the second Event of the evening.

Our second Event was one of the dessert-themed Events that have been happening every couple of months for a couple of years, this one at a new chain donut shop that opened recently. This Event was missing a few faces from the one before but had a few different faces, including one we hadn’t seen in a long while. The location was all right, but it was a little bittersweet to me. I’d eaten at the chain before and wasn’t especially impressed, but it reminded me of a longtime donut shop that had closed a couple of years ago. My grandparents took me there when I was a kid. I took the girls there several times. But that wasn’t important. We stuffed baked goods in our faces while discussing some deeper gossip, new cache placements, and old caches of more adventurous provenance. But eventually, time caught up to us. The hour got late, and people had to start making their way home to prepare for today. So did I.
That’s all. Nothing heady or earth-shattering or insane. Food and fellowship. That’s it.

Many times, food and fellowship is all you need.
