Finding an ammo can in the woods is always nice, especially inside the city. It involved a couple of minor inconveniences, the biggest being that it’s placed on the wooded hillside overlooking a charter school complex. I’m not enamored of being close to a school, but I cast no blame for that. I’m pretty sure it was just an office building when the cache was placed. Unfortunately, I chose to go find it during pickup time and turned into the wrong parking lot. It was a little difficult driving against the flow of the lined-up traffic to get out. I still managed to make it out of the wrong lot and into the right one near the trailhead. As I walked up the hill, I saw something odd—something I’m not sure I’ve encountered before. You’ve all seen rock stacking, right? Well, all along the path up the hill, I saw rocks obviously placed in tree elbows or balanced on tree limbs. I thought for a moment that they might be cairn equivalents, but why would they be needed on an already well-defined path? No matter. After a few different readings to triangulate ground zero and almost triangulating myself into a ditch, I found my quarry. Inveni, inscripsi, reposui.
In a couple of weeks, Texas Challenge is happening again! This year, it’s a Block Party, making it even more important that I attend (as if I wasn’t already contractually obligated, being the Central Texas Representative for the Texas Geocaching Association). Since it’s a Block Party, the itinerary is more off the proverbial chain than usual. Along with the actual competition itself, I’m looking forward to the panels, though I may not be able to attend all of them because I will have my children (both cacher and muggle) in tow. I imagine that one or both of them may get bored. Then again, they may find the panels interesting or find other things to entertain themselves with, so I may be able to do more than I think. Or not. Who knows? Of course, the Maze and Finishers’ Reunion are at the top of my list of must-attend Events. I’d also like to hit CaptainMath‘s Pi Day Event. It’s a bit far away but in a county my daughter doesn’t have yet, so we may be able to make it fit into our plans. There are other Events as well, but I don’t know which ones we’re going to be able to fit in with the counties we’re hoping to hit. We’ll play it by ear and see what happens.
