It was too rainy when I arrived in the middle of the night, so I hit the courthouse first thing in the morning. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed with it. Much like Creede, it was a fairly newly constructed courthouse that seemed a lot like a megachurch. It obviously did the job, but but it made me wonder: was church construction such a big thing out here? Was it a big enough thing that builders would use the same concepts or plans for other buildings? Part of me wants to think that maybe the area’s proximity to Utah maybe sparks an emphasis on ecclesiastical buildings, but Mormon temples seem to have a very different design aesthetic than modern church and megachurch design. That really only seems to apply to older temples and temples in larger cities, though. Smaller local ones seem to be almost indistinguishable from regular churches. Which makes me think that I don’t know enough about architecture in general or modern building methods specifically to make any kind of informed statement on any of this. All I can say with any authority is that the Gunnison County Courthouse looked to me like a megachurch.

I haven’t been messing much with trackables for a number of reasons, but I was drawn to one inside the cache. I figured “Why not? and snagged it up. Once I got to logging, I noticed that its owner put it’s trackable reference on it, but not the code. I couldn’t log it! D’oh! I reached out to the owner, who kindly hooked me up with the code. It’s in Texas now, so goody for it, but it had to follow me around Colorado some more as I pulled up stakes and headed out for…
