882. Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County (GA002)

This is the historical courthouse in Lawrenceville instead of the current one. Why? Because I am aesthetic trash. It’s absolutely lovely in red brick. I even saw courthouse elves dressing the grounds up for Christmas so that was good for a laugh. Another reason I went there was because there was a Virtual there and I’m not against killing two birds with one stone. This wasn’t my official cache though. Georgia’s county challenge requires physical finds and even though I’m not bound to that, I might as well work on those terms even if I don’t end up going to get the challenge itself. The other was a little more important anyway and I needed another riparian cache.

Ladies and gentlemen (or however you identify. I don’t mean to be gender assumptive), I give you Beaver Cache (the beavers have moved on), the oldest cache in Georgia! I parked at a community center for a suburb and noted to myself that this area would have been much wilder when the cache was placed. Making sure not to cross any property lines or fences, I went around to the back side of the center and took a little walk to a pond (I think I saw a blue heron there, but I’m not a bird person). I walked around in a little copse by the pond and there it was. The log was absolutely drenched; the outer container is cracked and someone didn’t correctly shut the inner container. Rain and varying pond levels did the rest. But I managed to sign it (broader tipped gel pens for the win!) and that’s what matters. As I returned to the car victorious, I noticed how the parking lot and some of the cement of the curbs were sparkling. Apparently, there’s mica in everything!
