902. Canton, Madison County (MS12)

The immediate draw for the Madison County Courthouse was the prominent tower that I could see on the way into town.  Mind you, the entire thing would look better if it wasn’t decked out like a Winter Wonderland or some crap, but I long ago reconciled the fact that I’m not recording courthouses for the ages no matter how I might wish it were so. 

My first stop was at the old train station for a Virtual devoted to the stop that was never by the one and only Mr. John Luther “Casey” Jones.  Being a musical hack, the Grateful Dead immediately hit play in my brain.  After spending a few minutes with the Virtual, I went to a nearby park to pick up a Traditional.  I felt a little skittish about getting it considering my track record with park and grabs all day, but I took the chance.  I parked in a gravel lot by the playground, walked out to a large tree, and began looking in the nooks of its trunk.  And behold!  The cache that was promised was, in fact, there!  That gave me hope as I went on toward…
