Overlapping Countdowns

Yesterday, I took a drive out to McKinney Falls to handle some business for the rapidly upcoming Texas Roundup. I had to re-scout some locations for things I have planned, but I got lucky. One thing I needed to do was talk to the coordinator for the park, but I hadn’t been able to for the last two weeks because work had been really hectic. As fate would have it, she was onsite, so I got a chance to sit and talk a few things over with her. Putting a face to the voice was nice, and things seemed to flow more easily than when we have spoken before. We got some things resolved, saving me a call during the week, and that was, in fact, that. And while I was there, I decided to go ahead and seek out one of the park’s caches. There’s nothing as lovely as an ammo can in the woods, no?

Saturday served a different countdown. Foreseeing the end of the Iconic Cacher souvenir for Wheel of Challenges, I hosted an Event to give folks one last chance at it. I had already gotten my Event for it, but I got some attendance from stragglers who had not gotten that final, all-important icon. One cacher even came up from Houston for it. His work schedule just hadn’t aligned with the local or San Antonio Events (of which there were many), so he drove up here for mine. I have gone pretty far to hold or attend an Event before, but never had someone come from that far for one of mine. And since he’s new to Texas from Indiana, we regaled him with stories of home, and he told us tales of Indianapolis. Now, that is what I call taco diplomacy.

Finally, the clock is ticking for me to get back on the road. It feels like it has been a long time because it’s been a long, long time. But I’m so here for it! I’m making my lists and checking them twice. Because I’m a hack, I haven’t been naughty, so it’s gonna be nice. I’ve missed writing both from and about the road. Of course, I love the travel aspect itself. To see somewhere new, to sail beyond the sunset, to visit the undiscovered country (not Shakespeare’s euphemism for death, but new lands upon which I have never trod)—that is what drives me. Of course, it makes the writing portion easier as well. When each entry is about one county, it’s pretty easy for me to get ahead. And I can crank out daily content for you all as well! Truly a win/win! But it needs to hurry up and get here! Yes, I still have more preparation to do, but I would almost trade some prep to get out there faster. Almost…
