798. Dover, Kent County (DE2)

Had I world enough and time, I would have probably gone to the old Kent County Courthouse because, as previously established, I am aesthetic trash. However, I’m not going to complain about accidentally landing at the current and functioning Kent County Courthouse. It was a nice modern building that gave a nod to older designs and blended in nicely with all the other buildings in the great square where it sat. That square, Legislative Green Park, spoke to an important fact about the courthouse. It could never be the political center of gravity here because it sat on the same square as …

… Legislative Hall, Delaware’s state capitol. It also became quickly apparent that I did not photograph the front of the building, but my traveling companions would not have cared a whit about that, considering the time and our desire to rest. We spread out over Legislative Green. There was a Virtual there that required going around to the various monuments and collecting information from them. We split up and rejoined, pooling our answers and claiming our cache for the county. Of course, we could not yet jump back on the highway and jet away. One goal of our fellowship was to get an EarthCache in every state. Luckily, there was one nearby for us to get, chosen because of its proximity to the evening’s other important find.

One might expect the Delaware Counties Challenge to be on a guardrail behind some chain restaurants. I doubt anyone celebrates it as an achievement, having only three counties. However, more thought and work went into this cache than some others I’ve seen, so that is to Delaware’s credit. We put ink on the log.
