Am I losing my mind? I have three raisons d’etre regarding this site: documenting visits to counties (and county equivalents), writing about my experiences as I cache, and photographing some of the caches I visit for reader edification. I like to think I’ve done a good job of the first and second of those; but lately, the third has been giving me problems. I don’t know why I’ve not been camera-happy lately. I’m usually making snaps all over the place. I think I’m especially sensitive to it after my photo failure in Oklahoma. I logged a challenge for my find on Monday, so I didn’t find a new one. Yesterday, while doing some maintenance, I went out to find a cache (a clear plastic container in a hollow tree knot), and I completely blanked on photographing it. I didn’t even realize it until I was halfway home. I ended up having to go out and find another cache just to have something to show you all for my efforts!
That said, I am back on another cache cleanup project. The company Redbox has gone bankrupt. Normally, this would not be of note. However, there is a local series of caches called Caja Roja (Red Box) hidden on their kiosks all over town and the region. I copied the conceit on a cache a bit farther afield in another county. Heck, I’ve seen one copied in Louisiana with a more linguistically appropriate name.
My point here (and I do have one) is that the great red boxes are going away at some point, and the CO has decided to end the entire series. Consequently, she has been going around collecting containers because why waste one. At her behest, I have also been going around to grab ones I’m near to save her a trip. Over the weekend, I ran down to Kyle to claim one of her Cajas Rojas I hadn’t gotten before and then pulled it off the kiosk! Something about that felt unnatural, and yet I did it several more times as I drove back into town. I have tentative plans to go out to some of the surrounding counties, and that will make for a perfect opportunity to pull some more of them for her.
Refreshing the board is integral to the game. Besides, with all the caches she’s placed over the years, I have no doubt she’ll put all the containers to good use in other places.
