A Sixth Year Gone By

Saturday was the sixth anniversary of this site. No matter how many times I say it, I’m still floored that anyone reads the drivel I post. It blows my mind that things are still chugging along and that there’s still something to say after all this time. That said, of course there are still things to say 1,788 caches, 78 counties, and 14 states (and a federal district) later! I never know what course my travels and writing may take, but I’m glad you all have come along with me for them. And, as always, I give you my word that as long as I can keep going, I will.

Last year, I was a little shaken because I got no new counties. This year, I’ve had two good trips (one for wonderful reasons and one for sadder reasons) that have put more of them on the map. I have begun to reckon with the fact that I am less likely to have 150+ county years. Let’s face it: I’ve gotten all the low-hanging fruit. If I want a new county, I have to drive eight hours to Jackson for the closest one. And though I have joked about it among friends, I don’t intend to spend a year living somewhere else for geocaching purposes (though Nashville and SLC have come up). But hope always springs eternal. Besides, this project is a marathon, not a sprint. I have time. I just wish I could do so much more. I will, however, be spending quite a lot of time revisiting counties I’ve been to in Texas, seeing a different side of them than I did the first time around. That will have to do to sate some of my travel jones.

Thanks to you all for following me as I write. One day, I may put down the proverbial pen and let my keyboard rest, but that day is not today! Between Patreon, Bluesky, and the social media outlet formerly known as Twitter, there are ways to interact more directly with me. Or not. You may have nothing to say to me, and that’s cool, too. But the option is there for the taking! I’m more than happy to converse! I’m also hoping to hit a couple more Megas in the next year. No promises, but we’ll see what happens.

Raise your glasses, my friends! Year Six ends! Here’s to Year Seven!
