I began the weekend with an FTF. A couple of caches, placed by a fairly new and heretofore unknown (to me) cacher, dropped on Friday close to home, so I got one of them. It turned out to be a nicely 3D printed nut cap with a couple of magnets in it. I felt happy to find it after the agonizing disappearance of another FTF opportunity before my Postcard Day Event, muggled before it could even be found. One a month is more than enough for me. Which is good because I took a shot at the other FTF the next day but failed to find it. It should have been simple, but I wasn’t a fan of the location, so I’ll let someone else find it before I make another attempt.

Sunday, I woke up to a message from Razorbackgirl. She and Bartman were going back out to get some more of his dedicated Geoart, and they invited me to come along. Of course, I said yes, but I also slept in, so they were already meeting up by the time I read the text. I let them know I’d meet them along the route, then ate some breakfast, put on my caching pants and shoes, and headed off to catch them. More FTFs were not in the cards because they had all been solved, and several others had gone after them by this point, but that’s all right. It’s the company that mattered.

There were more thorny cedars and more poison ivy to be found. We didn’t have to pull out the poles, but we did have some encounters with our own lack of both sight and insight. We saw stupid drivers, made wrong turns, and—on at least one stop—ran afoul of state traffic laws. So I guess we could call it an average caching day. Bart took a few photos from the car on a few of them, so you are all treated to a rare image of My Rotundness on a search. Luckily, the weather was not as blistering as it would have been a month ago, and we didn’t get any DNFs as we rolled together (they got one before I arrived), so I came away from it all with 30 new finds; they, with 50. Bart is also closing in on Find 25,000. He didn’t say what he planned to do to celebrate it, but it started me thinking about what to do with the Community Celebrations we have been awarded for next year. Part of me is thinking of using it for a New Year’s morning Event, but I kind of want to do something special with it. That said, I don’t have any realistic idea of what I want that to be. Unrealistically, if there were a community kitchen/bakery space, I’d totally host a Pi Day pie-baking Event, but I should be in Floresville for Texas Challenge at that point, so New Year’s it may be.
So, all in all, a pretty average weekend, no?
