Meleagris Gallopavo, Not Türkiye

Traditionally, when I have discussed turkey, I meant it in reference to the “country formerly known as” instead of the common American fowl. Now that the country has become more insistent on its name being properly rendered (and rightly so), the obvious joke based on the confusion of their names is lost. All I am left with is an American holiday that involves family, friendship, and (in some cases) a bunch of leftovers. As much as I would love to make a road trip over the holiday (it wouldn’t be the first time), I will be staying at home this year. I will be eating and writing and relaxing with the people I adore who are kind enough to put up with me. That also means I will not be writing a post for Friday. I will be too involved in board games, the return of the UT–A&M football rivalry, and perhaps turkey-based narcolepsy.

A lot of people will be traveling to and from their homes, going to near and far destinations, to be with their loved ones and feast together once again. Undoubtedly, those who cache as we do will be doing just that on the way to wherever they’re going. I hope the travel is safe and swift and any search goes well. Even more importantly, I hope you have good times with the people you care about, no matter what forms the relationships may take. I hope you have all the food that your dietary restrictions allow. I hope you all have a weekend of joy and laughter in front of warm and inviting hearths.

See you all on Monday!
