Down To The Wire

Laundry is in the washer. Routes are being finalized. Schedules are being massaged. Oddly enough, crosswords are being done. We are in final preparation mode for our journey. It’s been complicated by an outside issue. Part of our trip involves visiting two museums, but the closer one opens late, and the farther one closes early. Because of that, we’re not going to be able to hit as many counties over the weekend as I might like (especially since the girls aren’t ready to roll all night as I can, but baby steps, folks). I hope we’ll take a decent bite out of South Texas.

It’s always a weird feeling to be on the cusp of a trip, on the precipice of a journey. It’s not as strong in me as in the past because I’m returning to territories I’ve visited before, but it’s still there. I admit I wish I were going somewhere new and untrodden by me, but I’ll take what I can get. Besides, the places we’re going are new and untrodden by my daughters, so I guess I’ll have to see these old places through their new eyes.

All I can hope is that the girls enjoy what is to come. I know they’ll like a few days of hotel life. At least one of them will enjoy the Events and shenanigans and stuff. The other is good at entertaining herself. And though she would never admit it openly, she doesn’t dislike caching and the associated whatnots. And if they retain a few memories from it, all the better.

Tomorrow, we roll early. Let’s see what we manage to see between now and Friday.
