The Long and the Short of It

I didn’t feel too great yesterday. It was all I could do to get out of the house and find my daily cache. If I had been bedbound or something similar, I probably would have claimed a challenge, but not being truly infirm, I dragged myself out and got a cache. I should thank my lucky stars that the weather in Austin hasn’t yet become truly sizzling. The Spear of Apollo has been, thus far, merely occasionally annoying, not yet murderous (that’ll probably start next month). I found an interestingly hidden cache with an interestingly long tether that I won’t go into detail about, so I’ll take the find and call it good.

A new cacher with zero finds DNF’d one of my caches today. I felt bad, but I didn’t feel the need to go check it. They literally don’t know anything yet. But they found another of my caches, so I managed to provide their first experience in the life. There’s something to be said for that.

I need to set up a new Event. As you all know, I (along with a stalwart and dedicated team) am making arrangements for next year’s Texas Challenge. I’ve gotten lots of suggestions from lots of people, but I need to be in one place so anyone can make any suggestion, no matter how brilliant or banal. I can’t (and won’t) promise that every idea will be implemented, but I want to hear what people have to say. A good idea is a good idea no matter where it comes from.

Here’s a dumb writing-related stat for you: Last year, I averaged 497 words per entry. This year, I’m averaging just shy of 600. But the thing about averages is that, well, they’re averages. Sometimes, you meet or surpass them, and sometimes you miss. Today, I miss. There are times when even I don’t have a lot to say.
