Yesterday was my eighth geoversary. It doesn’t feel like eight years; it still feels like yesterday. In the last year I found just over 800 caches and picked up 60 new counties, completing my tenth state (Colorado), and hitting three new ones (Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia). I also dipped my toes back into Utah, but that’s barely even worthy of note. With my visit to the Atlanta area, I finished Jasmer; was interviewed again by HQ; included in an interview with his Bryan-ness; and, most importantly, organized the 24th Annual Texas Challenge in March. On top of all that, assuming nothing strange happens in the next 48 hours, tomorrow I will have cached for 2,922 days in a row, eight years and two leap days, which puts me at #11 in Texas, in the top #100 in the US, and in the top #400 in the world. Still, as I said at the four-, five-, six-, and seven-year marks, I don’t care about the streak. And this statement, as it was all those times I made it, is still functionally meaningless. And after six years, I stepped down as Central Texas Representative of the Texas Geocaching Association.
I guess I did some stuff in the last year. I hope I’ll do some stuff this year as well. I’m not going to lie: I like finally being out from under the looming reality of an upcoming Mega-Event. It was like a landslide that had been slowly approaching for years. And, unlike last year, I got counties this year! But I need more! I’ve got a Project to work on, and it’s not going to finish itself! It needs to go forward! Always forward!
