Butler County, your courthouse has been judged and found wanting. I’ve obviously seen worse, but you could have done so much better. Everything I saw coming into town made me think David City was some kind of art enclave, but it was not. I had hoped that maybe the courthouse would contract that artsy vibe in the way the timeless tends to stand out from the topical. It did, but not for the right reasons, I think. There was no art (at least none that I saw) and there was a boring building from the 1970s as well. Oh, well.
The cache warns to watch out for muggles since it’s downtown on the county square. That wasn’t especially an issue for me, though. While there were tons of cars parked on the street, none of them were occupied. I honestly had no idea where the owners were since I didn’t see any restaurants or similar locations around. The cache was a simple bison hidden behind a sign. Watching for muggles is key, but despite being across the street from the courthouse in the dead center of town, I was good. Inveni, inscripsi, reposui. And again, just like in Seward, I had trouble logging it because the cell service was not good for some reason I couldn’t divine. I was getting five bars of connection, but I couldn’t send a text or make a call or pull up a webpage. And yet I could connect just fine between towns, which was completely counterintuitive.
