922. Parker, Turner County (SD04)

It had been a while since I was in South Dakota and I can’t say that the Turner County Courthouse was a shining welcome for me.  It was modern and they were trying to emulate an older style, but it just fell flat, like they didn’t really know what they wanted architecturally.  It’s basically an office building with the most bafflingly nondescript flourishes. But I guess it does the job though and what should I expect out here in the middle of nowhere?  But what really caught my eye was that out in the middle of nowhere South Dakota, gas was cheaper than back home!  What’s with that?

I went for my cache with a lot of trepidation.  The easiest one in the area turned out to be at an RV park.  As I approached GZ, there was an RV parked right next to it.  Conceptually, I guess this is the same as a front yard cache, but it still felt significantly different.  I double and triple checked the coordinates, but they were dead on.  The CO made assurances on the cache page that it was for anyone so I gently moved around the RV and close to a power conduit.  It was described as an “evil hide,” which also worried me because I don’t honestly think that anything below D3.0 should qualify as evil (this one was a D1.5).  It wasn’t though; it was just an electrical plate.  When I saw it, I thought to myself “is this all?”  I guess they’re far more common in cities than out in the wilds.  I saw no signs of life or human presence as I did my business with it and then got on my way.  That was enough excitement for one day, even if there wasn’t anything that was actually exciting.  With that, I took an eastward jog to get to…
