949. Rock Rapids, Lyon County (IA07)

Back in Iowa again! The last time I was here, the wind was almost strong enough to blow my clothes off, but this time it was a little more temperate in that regard. I looked forward to the chance to take another slice off the state on my way home. When I laid eyes on the courthouse, well, it doesn’t get more classical than that. I, of course, took a minute to examine the lion perched above the front door. While I’d like to think the county was more … high minded than to make such a simple pun that way, I found the lion both fitting and at the same time a touch much in equal measure. Despite that detail though, I found the courthouse to be an excellent entry into Iowa’s courthouse ledger and a good mark in her favor.

As I began to consider which cache I should go get, I noticed that someone was kind enough to place one at the courthouse itself. Since I was already there, why not take a short walk and save some time? Appropriately called “No Ballots!,” It was a magnetic bison hidden close to the drop off box for the county. Having seen many such boxes in many such counties, it was a receptacle for paperwork and payments, forms of many kinds, and did not accept ballots of any kind whatsoever! Well, I left my mark! I signed my name on the log, placing exactly zero ballots and running afoul of no rule. And with my work complete, it was time to continue on. I strolled back to the car, and then set off again, soon reaching…
