Missing Men (And Women)

It’s still a weird feeling to go up to L-Town and only have one caching buddy with me, but cache we did. We had to run some errands around town and one of them involved the local mall. In my experience, shopping centers of most kinds always have one or more caches for the finding. We went to the appropriate bush and got one of them easily enough. A little later in the day, since I was outside of my normal hunting grounds, I decided to go ahead and get a second one. I originally wanted to find one that involved climbing trees in deference to my younger daughter who likes that kind of thing, but she demurred because she had a soiree to attend later and didn’t want to do anything physical or possibly sweat inducing beforehand. Fair enough. I ended up finding one on a guard rail without her involvement (she stayed in the air conditioned car, so I make no judgments regarding who was smarter) and then later stopped in a small town on the way home to grab a quick Adventure Lab series.

Sunday was a little more Eventful. I attended a World Postcard Day Event and brought a little piece of my past. Many, many years ago, in the days BC (Before Caching), I worked at a gift shop that was going out of business. One day my boss told me that if I wanted any of cards or stationary or whatever, I could snag it since much of it was probably going to be trashed anyway. Being an art aficionado of sorts, I grabbed a good handful of them so I would have them to send to my many friends from my journeys or to their far flung homes or both. Except I didn’t do a lot of travel back then and didn’t need to send postcards because the Internet was a newfangled thing. Recently, I found a bag of these cards that had been sitting unused for thirty years in a box. What better to bring to a World Postcard Event? Some folks took some home, others got messages written on to send to far-flung friends and cachers. To be terribly honest, I don’t have a ton of hope that they will arrive. I usually send postcards from out on the road and know that the ones I sent from Aspen and Fargo never did. But maybe we’ll get lucky this time?
