319. De Queen, Sevier County (AR03)

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the seat of Justice. While I like the look of this courthouse, I’m not entirely sure what to make of it. I’m sure there’s some historical and architectural stuff going on here that I’m just not aware of. It occupies this odd middle ground between interesting and blah that I can’t quite put my finger on.

At least there are some monuments to look at. After some of the plces I’ve been, that’s a nice change of pace. I noticed that none of the war memorials go back past WWI. Maybe this county wasn’t very active during the Civil War? And there’s the strange memorial to the guy who personally selected De Queen to be on the Kansas Railway.

There’s always a cemetery. I found this one on the way to town. This little birdhouse needs some tender loving care. It was falling apart and it was all I could do to get the log out of it and then put the pieces back together. Maintenance, people! This is why we need to do it! I could replace a cap-n-cap or a keybox if I had to, but at no time do I ever have a birdhouse in my possession! Or Gorilla glue or epoxy or anything similar. I couldn’t repair it so I put it back together the best I could and put it back on the fence for the next person to find.
