318. Ashdown, Little River County (AR02)

This was not my first time in the county, so it’s nice to finally make it official. As for the courthouse, lovely, don’t you think? I don’t ever remember seeing a courthouse with a copper dome in it before so that’s a new and different. One daughter chose to stay in the air conditioning while the other decided to wander around with for a few minutes while I photographed.

I was a little worried when I saw mention of Jeff Davis there, but it turns out to be another Jeff Davis. That said, what is up with his chin? Not trying to appearance shame or anything, but that was the first thought in my head when I saw his picture. That said, he was a Governor and I’m not so I’ll keep my commentary on his appearance to myself and shut my piehole. That also said, I saw something strange on the war memorial pictured above. They added an 9/11 tribute to it and I find myself a bit put off by that. I have no issue with memorials to 9/11 but (and this may be an unpopular opinion) but I don’t believe it should have been added to a war memorial such as this one. Those victims didn’t serve their country or knowingly put themselves in a position that might cause them to have to give the last, full measure of devotion. They didn’t leave their homes to shed their blood in far off lands. They didn’t come home and carry on with life despite some of the horrors they might have see or possibly even had to do. They did lose their lives in a terrorist attack and deserve to be commemorated on a memorial here (or anywhere for that matter), but they shouldn’t be on this memorial.

This has no bearing on anything, but I absolutely adore this library. I have sometimes mentioned that I don’t spend a lot of time in these little towns as I pass through. I don’t get to see the local color because I’m too focused. Well, this time the local color reached out and pulled me to it.

So, where might the cache be? I don’t know. Not a clue. Completely stumped… So it got grabbed, signed, and returned. Once our work here was done, we all went on down the road again, until we reached…
