617. Iola, Allen County (KS070)

The courthouse here was built in 1959.  It’s not great, but it’s not terrible either, definitely something somewhere in the middle of “don’t love it” and “don’t hate it.”  That being said, the interesting feature here on the grounds is the clock from the original 1909 courthouse, salvaged when the old courthouse was demolished.  I thought was a nice and somewhat redeeming touch.  I walked the grounds, serenaded by the dulcet tones of the landscaping crew riding their industrial riding mowers.  I got lucky because there was a cache right here on the grounds. 

The county war memorial was the most favorited cache in the county, quite large and expansive.  I only pictured part of it because that size is integral to answering the questions to claim it.  I got the appropriate information from the appropriate places and sent it off even though I’m pretty sure that the CO hasn’t cached in years, and by “years” I mean over a decade.  This work here done, I aimed to put some food into my hungry belly and then continue on to…
