What did I do this weekend? From a caching perspective, that is. It was filled, though not brimming. Saturday, I took the girls to the Austin Zoo, where we attended a tiger’s birthday. One of them suggested placing an Adventure Lab series there, which is not a terrible idea. I’m going to put some brain cycles toward it, but that’s beside the point at the moment. After we left the zoo, we went out and grabbed a few caches on the way back into town. Luckily, the weather wasn’t oppressively hot in the morning, but the mercury was climbing over the course of the day. We hit an LPC and a cemetery, which was important because there were two souvenirs at stake! That was enough to get one of them for me, Out and About Hard. I took the girls home, but ran a couple of errands while they rested. While I was out, I managed to find a bison in a tree to get the second souvenir, Summer Solstice.
Sunday, while the girls were hanging out with their cousin, I went out to scout out and place caches. I went out with my friend, a Rotarian, to look at several locations where they have done service projects in Temple, Georgetown, and Pflugerville, all parts north of Austin. We found a couple of good ones in Temple, but Georgetown turned out to be a bust. The projects there were all at schools, so there was no good way to place anything close to them in a safe and reasonable way. Pflugerville has a excellent spot, but it’s smack dab between two extant caches. Luckily, I know the CO of both of them so I’ll see what can be done in that regard.
OK, so that’s not the most epic weekend. Not every weekend can be out doing geoart or conquering the planet. But I got a couple of nice day trips out of town, so I’ll call that a victory.
