Eventually

It seems like it could mean “pertaining to an event,” but it doesn’t, which is tragic because if it did, I could call this an eventual weekend. More than likely, you don’t care about my dip into wordplay. You only care about the hot, sweet, Event-based action.

Friday night, I drove down to Lockhart for dinner. Friends of the site Carrot Killer and LadyBlackCat have for years been running the Texas Geocampers, a camping-inspired series of Events that roves around the state from park to park. The last campout of the year was at Lockhart State Park. I’m not outdoorsy by nature, so I’d never attended one, but I’ve always wanted to, and since it was so close to home, how could I not pop down? Unfortunately, I have a somewhat busy life and couldn’t attend the main Event on Saturday. But I could go to the preliminary dinner the night before. That was good enough for me! Of course, while I was there, I took care of some business. There was a Caja Roja cache in town, so I pulled it for the owner to return. Once I had it in hand, I went for barbeque with many of the Geocamper attendees, many of whom I’ve known for years, and some of whom I had never met before. And, since I was literally in possession of a cache that was about to die, I offered the assembly one last chance to find it. How often do you get a cache brought to you?

Sunday, I was able to join a more intimate gathering. Local cacher J2dad has been holding a series of Events over the last year, each at a different dessert-based location. I had been able to say that I had attended every one, but I missed the last one since I had to run down to Leakey. A small group of us (including friend of the site Buckandi) gathered just after lunchtime to gab for a bit. I didn’t have lunch because I had a big breakfast followed by a long nap, so my belly was still full of tacos, but it was a nice chance to have a caramel apple pastry. It was also an opportunity to demonstrate that I am not practiced in the art of taking selfies. But since I’m not exactly a fan of the selfie form, I do not feel that flaw makes me less of a person.

I have a few Events coming down the pike that I’m looking forward to as well. In a couple of weeks, I am hosting a CITO in tandem with over twenty other locations across the state as part of CITO Across Texas. I’m anticipating an autumnal equinox Event soon. Texas Roundup will be hitting in Fort Davis, though real life may prevent me from going this year.

If you haven’t been to one recently, go. The old friends are missing you. The new faces would like to meet you. And you might be one of those old friends or new faces. Maybe you need to be the one who hosts one? Think about it.
