
Make that four for four in North Dakota! Look at this beautiful piece of classical architecture! And she doesn’t have a tower; she has a crown! I’ve just got to find out how they fund their courthouses around here! It has occurred to me that being this close to the Red River (du Nord) and therefore river trade may have had an effect on a number of North Dakota counties’ courthouses, but I haven’t been to the state’s interior yet so that theory may or may not hold up. Either way, I’ve gotten a good run up to this point!
Normally when I go county hopping, I go for the closest, easiest cache I can find so I can get on to the next county. For Grand Forks however, I suspended that rule and added extra time. Why, you might ask? Because deeper into the county was the second jewel of the trip, a little town called …

… Gilby. I shot out to caching’s equivalent of Disneyland to get a cache. If I had the entire day (and probably another person), I would have gone for a whole bunch of the area’s caches, all highly favorited, but I didn’t have time for all that. If I was going to get one, it might as well be the most favorited cache (at the moment; there’s fierce competition in the area) in North Dakota …

… Strong Man at the Fair. Yes, a strength machine (fun fact: in the industry they’re called high strikers)! It took up the hammer and swung with all my might!

And out of the top flew the cache! I even had a little chuckle as it clanged against the bell, its ringing resounding in my ears. And yes, I, despite being my jaded self, gave it one of my stingily hoarded favorite points. And after snagging a quick Virtual as well, I was off again.
