To the best of my knowledge, I have ascertained that this building, actually a government center, is the courthouse for my purposes. I have no doubts that as a government center, it’s perfectly cromulent. As a courthouse though, no. Oh no. No, no, no, no. It is the opposite of good. I’m sure they did the best they could with what they had, but it’s still just sad. This building is single-handedly bringing down the courthouse average in Minnesota, which is saying something because it’s already disappointingly low to begin with.
As for the cache, it was probably the most infuriating experience of the entire day. A lot of the ones in town were higher Difficulty, which is exactly what I don’t want when I’m out on the road. As you can imagine, when I’m trying to get from place to place, county to county, I just don’t want to spend that much time looking or puzzling. Once I got to Crookston and began my search for theoretically lower Difficulty caches, I began to consider what the heck they considered low D out in these parts. Sure there were going to be differences in hide style from region to complicate things, but in what world is a D1.5 going to be a nano hidden in big iron? How about a D1.5 that involves unscrewing and moving a thirty pound iron plate? And folks seemed to be finding these things, but it seemed like more than just a question of hide style! Eventually, I figured that the one at the local Veteran’s memorial would probably be the easiest option left after the other fairly hard D1.5s. And yet that 1/1 park and grab was still more like a 2.0/1.5. But I still found the keybox in the (sort of) appropriate place and victory requires no explanation.
Even though I had a couple of hours of daylight left to work with, I decided to call it an early evening. I had burned the candle at both ends for a couple of days so the least I could do was get a good night’s sleep before resuming my labors. Believe me, having the sun go down at 9:30-ish in the evening is both awesome and draining. But if I did my math right (and I usually do), the next day’s find would be especially auspicious in…
