
The Rock County Courthouse turned out to be a little disappointing photographically because this is the front, ironically the least interesting face of the entire structure. What you can’t see is the castle-like tower in the back corner or the glass walls or anything like that. They were stunning. They were also nigh-impossible to photograph because of arboreal barricades. I just couldn’t find a vantage of any value, so all you get is the only fully visible option, the front. As the saying goes, you get what you get and you don’t throw a fit, but it could have been so much better…

All hail the humble LPC! I noticed it was on the way to the courthouse so I went ahead and took care of it first. I was originally going to pass it up because the appropriate lamp post happened to be right outside the county sheriff’s department and, as we all know, I tend to avoid cops whenever possible. When I got to GZ, it was a completely empty parking lot other than one vehicle ironically parked at the appropriate lamp post. What are the odds? But I decided to go ahead with it: it was Sunday morning with no sign of law enforcement activity and nothing to make me think there was going to be a public gathering or anything like that. Inveni, inscripsi, reposui. And once it was logged and my courthouse duties fulfilled, it was time for me to leave not only the county but the state. I considered it funny that I had always thought Luverne would be my introduction to Minnesota, but now it would be where I would exit from. And I had less than 48 hours to get from Luverne back to Austin. But some work of noble note may yet be done in that time, I thought.
