Across The State, Across The World

This past Saturday was the third annual CITO Across Texas. I didn’t even write about the first one when it happened, though I did the second one. This one was a little different, though. You see, the idea of it caught on a bit so this has turned out to be the first CITO across the World. While we only had twenty CITOs in Texas, there were over 150 others in the US and another 150+ across the world! Personally, I don’t think my contribution amounted to much; I mostly picked up plastic water bottle caps and beer bottlecaps that seemed to date from the Ford Administration. A bunch of my co-CITOists (before you say it, every word is made up) ended up pulling some more significant stuff from deeper hidey holes. But what really mattered wasn’t the amount of trash collected (Austin parks tend to stay pretty damned clean). Rather that it’s nice how small ideas can make a big difference in the world. On rolling schedules, hundreds of places both here, abroad (and by that I mean outside of Texas), and globally were shown love and attention because one person had an idea and we all chipped in to make it happen. And being a sucker for a souvenir, I couldn’t say no since I got the ones for the September Solstice and the new CITO season as well. However, had I known beforehand how the CITO would end, I would have been even more motivated than I already was to be there.

Pnutmom2001, BklynTex1015, and TexBklyn1015, collectively styled as the Adventurous Caching Crew or ACC, became the newest initiates to our great fraternity; numbers 395, 397, and 396; the finishers of the Texas County Challenge. One by one, they placed their names into the log book…

…one by one, they became raised and ennobled, the newest members of our sacred band.

And then after that, I had to go home and remember how to write again. It’s been a minute since I’ve written a regular entry. My last trip to Manitoba and back was quite the affair, long enough that it’s been months since I wrote a standard, non-county entry. The timing on the end of of those entries was quite coincidental and fitting, but now we begin waiting until the next trip…
