Armchair Logging

Just as a new Earthcache dropped near me over the weekend, a new Virtual dropped near me soon after.  Had my brain been working properly, I would have gone to an Event for my cache of the day, but a) I forgot and b) I was occupied by … other things.  Anyway, the chair had been around Austin for a decade but only arrived in its current location six years ago.  It sits out front of a church and belongs to the church’s pastor, who previously had it out front of his home before it was moved.  Coincidentally, I remembered going for a now archived cache across the street from its previous location, but that’s neither here nor there.  What matters is that it is repainted every month to two months, usually whimsically, to reflect the time of year.  With Halloween approaching, it was adorned with Doctor Frankenstein’s beer stein, looking positively scary and ready to come chase me.   As fate would have it, it had been threatening to rain that day, so I was in possession of my appropriate signature item, my trusty and long-suffering umbrella.  A couple of quick snaps later, I logged it, taking care of my cache for the day.

As mentioned before, I was (and still am) concerned with other things though.  Pregaming always has me in a flurry of last-minute things to consider.  No matter how far ahead I prepare, I always forget something.  Yes, that means I’m getting ready for a trip.  It’s not going to be a long one, nor will it be a deeply productive one.  Of course (and it is rare you will hear me say this [though you’re actually reading me write it, but whatever]), it’s not meant to be.  But I will be coming back with some new counties and a few interesting, well-respected caches (I hope).  I’ll even have at least one entry from the road.  I’m leaving this afternoon which means that that my Friday entry should be about my first stop of the trip in…
