197. Hebbronville, Jim Hogg County

There wasn’t much on the grounds to catch my attention but what I did notice was the beast sitting across the street.

That’s quite a piece of picturesque ruin porn there if I say so myself (and I do). I originally thought it was an old hospital or clinic, but it turns out that it started out as a hotel. The hotel Viggo was opened in 1915, at some point became part of the local EMS system and, most interestingly, once served as a fortress out of fears of raiding by Pancho Villa’s men. I also found a photoblog of the interior so there’s now a little part of me that wants to go back and take a look inside for myself. That, and that would be one heck of a place for a cache…

My cache was so simple I didn’t even photograph it. On the road to my final destination, I stopped short of the county line and pulled over to the side of the road. As soon as I started pulling over, I knew it was going to be THAT tree. And when I walked over, there was a preform sticking out the side of it. I did the things with it and one more county was done. Besides, I had a date with destiny. I took a deep breath, put the car in drive, and headed to the most important thing I needed to do all trip, my final destination…
