The Unsung

Friday morning, I decided to go in to work late so I could hit an Event in downtown Austin. It’s not something I normally do, but a) I was already making it a long weekend because of the eclipse, so nobody really cared much about Friday and b) I wasn’t going to leave a Lackey hanging when they were coming to town! Becoopify and her husband came down from Seattle to Texas to catch the celestial action and decided to meet some of us! She’s in HR at HQ so (as far as I know) she’s not one of the wide-ranging Lackeys who go all over the world seeing stuff and doing things (though, she’s cached in a lot more countries than I have so my statement may be as wrong as can be). But she has an incredibly important job: she helps find and recruit more Lackeys. She helps wrangle up all the smart, dedicated, and loyal people doing the grunt work, unseen and uncelebrated, so that you and I can go out and do this thing we love as well as being one herself! I arrived early while her hubby was jogging so I got her all to myself for a little while. We chatted about the eclipse and weather and a plethora of other things before other cachers started to arrive, several from a different Event in north Austin held by a cacher I didn’t know for their birthday. From there, we all started yakking and gabbing about stuff and things (and things and stuff), especially restaurants to hit, live music venues to enjoy, a next day jaunt down to San Antonio, and, of course, must hit caches (and yes, I did emphasize the Necropolis). We all had a lovely time, but all good things must come to an end. Especially for me. Unlike my vacationing and retired compatriots, I still had to go to work. But it was an absolute pleasure to meet another tireless member to the Groundspeak Team! Bryn, I hope to run into you again up in the PNW some time!

That said, soon after this is published, I will be snacking on meats and cheeses (with a little bit of wine) with the girls, visiting from Longview, and friends, preparing for the celestial show. The God of Astronomy can put on quite a show. Unfortunately, the God of Meteorology can be quite active and a trickster to boot. I wish you all stunning views and cloudless skies! My we all get to enjoy the majesty of the heavens! Or some kind of crap like that!

  1. Hi Marcellus! This blog post just made my day. It was wonderful getting to meet you. And, thanks to your suggestion, we went and found the Necropolis cache! That was so much fun! I hope our paths cross again! – Bryn
