Full disclosure: no Panamanian canals have been involved in my recent activities.
I did not plan my activity yesterday. I came to regret it. I just figured that I’d take a quick jaunt out toward Leander (another town surrounding Austin) for my daily cache. That took forever. I first went for one in the rock wall of a suburban entrance, but that was a fail. For some reason, I fare poorly with rock walls at suburb entrances specifically. If I had a nickel for each one I’ve DNF’d in the last month … I’d have two nickels, which isn’t much, but it’s surprising that it’s happened twice. From there, I redeployed to a water pipe with a nano on it because it had been found at the end of last month. Once again, I failed. I double-checked the old logs to see it had been found at the end of last month a year ago. My third attempt wasn’t even an attempt because the muggle level was over 9000. Eventually, I got lucky to find an LPC at an emergency clinic.
The day before, I did plan my activity. There’s a Mystery cache on the grounds of the University of Texas that I’ve long desired to get. A few years ago, I did the word find puzzle to get its coordinates but had hesitated to get it over the years because if you ever want to see a muggle level over 9000, try a college campus! But thanks to my friend’s son, who is in college, I learned that the summer semester just ended, and the fall semester has a few weeks before beginning, meaning that the campus is mostly deserted. I ended up at a chemistry building where I had formerly taken classes, and I cut through the building to reach a courtyard I never knew existed. Behind a gutter spout, I found a tin with a logbook in it. Taking another route out, I was soon back at my car with none of the few students, employees, or security guards any the wiser.
I am planning activities for the foreseeable future. This weekend, I’m going up to L-Town to see the girls. We will take a day to hit the road like before. I’m hoping to hit some counties between there and Dallas or along the border with Oklahoma, but finding the Non-Traditionals that are not too horribly difficult is pretty important. Solving any I need to ahead of time will help, too. We might even dip toes across the Red River, but it’s not like the girls haven’t been before. At least, that’s the plan. I vaguely remember something about best-laid plans and rodents or something like that.
