Two important notes:
1. No gnomes were harmed (or even involved) in the production of this entry and
2. I forgot to mention in the title that this was the Earthcache Edition.

Saturday evening I took a drive down to New Braunfels. I had originally planned to go earlier in the afternoon so I could also attend an Event after (Happy looming Birthday to Ravenclaw Tia), but I was reminded about something on my calendar that had shifted so I had to take care of an already planned but mis-scheduled thing instead. Once I was done, I wasn’t all that far away so I went ahead and took care of my primary reason for going. As those of you who breathlessly hang on my every word well remember (though I do not shun those who don’t), a few weeks ago, I failed to successfully complete an Earthcache challenge named, appropriately enough, Earthcache Challenge because one of my required features, specifically a fold feature, had not been met. I had, to my knowledge, never seen one in Texas so I began to research whether or not it would even be a possibility here or if I would have to find one on a roadtrip some time. When I googled fold geology in Texas, the second search result was an Earthcache of all things! Turns out that Texas is filled with folds, Central Texas especially, and the EC was right down the road in Comal County so I went for a drive. Ground zero was in the middle of a substantial road looping around town cutting through the a hill, the entire point of the trip. I did a turnaround, came back to the cut hillside, and parked to take a look at the anticlines and synclines visible in the rock faces. There was also a cave that could be reached with a quick and reasonable climb, but I was neither on the right side of the road nor there at a good time for that. There’s a second Earthcache in the same spot covering a different subject, so I may try the cave if/when I go back for it, but that wasn’t important. All that mattered was that I answered the questions and finally found my fold feature which means that Sunday I once again logged the Earthcache Challenge and this time it ought to stick! I’ve been looking to get some of those older unfinished challenges off my list and I can finally say I got one that had been sitting since 2021! Some of them I’ll never accomplish (why on earth would I ever do 360 degrees of caches inside Oklahoma?) but others I just know I’ll complete one day. Not this day, unfortunately, but give me time!
