Clothed Envy?

Yesterday was not a deep caching day. My cache for the day was an Event. But not just any Event. We had a visitor from afar as our host!

GameForTravel happened to be passing through from Huntsville AL on the way to GeoWoodstock in Hutchinson. He’s a little early to the party, but apparently he’s going to burn some time by going out to California on the way there. That has got to be the worst route I’ve ever seen planned! Or the best depending on one’s point of view. I myself have still never cached in California (though I was stationed there many years ago BC [Before Caching]) so I’m envious that he can just spend a month traveling there and then back to Kansas. He’s also finished a lot more states than I have so there’s that, too. Among other things, he pulled out something on me that I had never considered. After we signed his log book, he made a trackable available to us, another book with the signatures of most of the people who had ever discovered it! That was novel and I wish I had thought of it as well. That said, I’m not making one because it’s obviously been done and I’m not into trackables that much since The Incident.

There is another reason for my envy, though. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it but, unless some miracle happens, I’m not going to be attending GeoWoodstockXXII. Life has gotten in the way. This is tragic for me because not only had I been planning to go for a year (it’s so close! Only eight hours away!) but also because I had been planning to take the Girls along with. If I was just going myself, I’d happily drive up Friday night, hang around all day Saturday and then drive back that night, stopping for sleep somewhere along the road. But I can’t exactly do that with the Girls, can I? I have many flaws, but I like to think I’m a decent and responsible parent. As an equally problematic corollary, my chances of attending Land Run in August seem to be dwindling as well. I want to take the Girls up to Guthrie for it, but The younger one is starting the new school year the Monday after and the older one is starting college at the same time. All this horrid timing is killing me!

While it looks like some of my friends will be able to attend, I may be out of the Mega game for the rest of the year. If my eyes are green, it’s because I eat a lot of vegetables… That aside, bon chance, GameForTravel! Enjoy the trip to Cali and I hope to catch you again at the next Mega I’m able to attend!
