Over the weekend, I went to an Event (several actually, but one one was of note) down in New Braunfels. Apparently, Electric Water Boy made a suggestion for the Event. RavenclawTia set up the thing. Some people submitted their Will Attends. I didn’t because I rarely do. When the time came, I made the drive down there for it even though I had driven back from L-Town in the morning. I arrived to find several folks from San Antonio who I knew there and a few others along with the host showed a little after. Why, you may ask, was any of this worthy of note?
Because the Event was scheduled for 2AM.
Yes, you read that right. Two in the morning. I left the house after midnight, had a surprisingly fast drive (45 minutes) down because there was minimal traffic to speak of, and came to a stop at a tree shaded corner a five minute walk away from Gruene Hall. I knew only that the Event was at somewhere food related that our host wanted to try. It took me a few minutes to figure out what it was: a pizza vending machine.

There was a screen where you could make your order (or you could go to the website and order remotely if that was more your thing) and in a few minutes, it would heat up and dispense your pizza, some thing a bit smaller than a frozen pizza you might find at our local store. I’m sure it would clean up near a college campus or a bar, but out there didn’t seem like the best place, even with Gruene Hall nearby (nobody from there migrated to us for late night munchies). Some of the attendees partook of the pizza fare but I demurred. Vending machine pizza, much like David Koresh’s grave the day before, was not on my bingo card. We (they) ate and we talked. There was a cache onsite that I had no intention of finding (the Event was already my cache for the day) but it was literally placed in front of me so I went ahead and signed it. We discussed why there were so many more Events in the San Antonio area (a bunch of them are working on a challenge to attend an Event on every day of the calendar) and planning for our various future road trips. And after an hour of communing, we broke up and headed back to our respective homes.
I once attempted to attend an event at 6AM, as designated by the Event page. I was there and nobody else was. Turned out that host meant 6PM and wouldn’t allow me to claim attendance for being there at the stated time. Well, now I have one at 2AM. And there was talk about having more at odd hours in the future. I think that’s a terrible idea. And of course I’ll go!

That’s really wacky! I’m not sure I would/could manage a 2am event, with or without vending machine pizza, but I’m glad you did so I could read about it.
