I have a confession to make. It may be controversial, and you may want to stone me afterward, but I feel I have to say it.
I have grown tired of micros in trees.
I know you are already lighting the torches and sharpening the pitchforks, but bear with me for a moment. If you remove the Virtuals, Adventure Labs, and Events of all types (they’re not salient to this subject), I have found well over eight thousand six hundred physical caches of seven different types (yes, I’m counting HQ and the Washington APE in there, but they’re really not germane, either). I cannot begin to count how many of them have been micros in trees. So many states, so many counties… And around my own home most of all. That’s not to say that all of them have been bad; I’ve seen some very clever ones. But those are the exceptions. I’ve seen so many pill bottles and bisons and DNA tubes in branches. Yesterday was another in a long line of them. And as I wiped the sap from my hand after rooting around in the branches, I realized how tired I was of them. Which is funny because I’ve probably seen just as many LPCs. So why vent my frustration on trees specifically? I don’t know. Maybe I’m tired of groping around in branches. Maybe I’m tired of getting poked by spines and thorns. Maybe I’m tired of getting poked in the face by branches or struck by rebounding limbs. I also realize that I’m lumping bushes, cacti, and any number of other plants into this, but that’s beside the point. I still feel that a cache is a cache is a cache, but I feel like I’ve found all the great caches around here, and now I’m left with dregs in comparison. And that’s making me a little sad. Maybe it’s just my roundabout way of expressing a desire for new and fertile hunting grounds. Maybe it’s not really about the trees at all. Maybe I’m really just saying I want to get back on the road to see some great caches again.
Maybe.
