Okay, not. It’s just that I find myself in a strange position that I’ve never been in before thus far in my authorial “career.” I did things today that are caching related, but I can’t discuss them, which leaves me with not much to write about. So instead of revealing “state secrets,” I’ll just talk about the other thing that’s been on my mind since yesterday. As you all know, the girls and I are going to Texas Challenge next weekend. We’re obviously going to hit some counties on the way there and while we’re in the area. We’re definitely going to see the Gulf of Mexico1 again. But it also occurred to me that various Events and whatnots are going on, meaning we have to be in certain places at certain times to attend them, and I have to carefully monitor my cache finds to align things properly.
And what, you may ask, are all these so-called shenanigans? I’m glad you asked! Unfortunately, we’re heading down Thursday, so we won’t be able to attend the Alamo flash mob or the In Memoriam Events. We’ll probably make it to a Thursday afternoon dinner Event, but it depends on how the young ladies feel after hitting counties on the way there. If they’re still full of fire and fury, we might skip it and use all the daylight we can on counties, but that still leaves the possibility of attendance wide open. While there is a Friday morning Event in Floresville, the one I actually want to attend is down the road outside of Jourdanton. The one and only Captain Math is hosting his sixteenth annual Pi Day Event, so I definitely want to hit it while I have the chance! While I’m saddened that the girls and I will not engage in our tradition of baking pies on Pi Day, this might be a second-best option (assuming I can rouse them early enough). Friday evening, we’re going to have a tête-à-tête with Signal at another Event, and I’m pretty sure I’m contractually obligated to attend. Saturday morning, of course, is the Big Show. Saturday afternoon, however, has time since none of us are competing in any Individual Challenges, and there won’t be enough time to go out to far-flung counties. I hope to hit the Maze and some panel discussions while we’re there, but there will be more than just me there. Friday night is the Finishers Reunion, which I will not miss. I even have my own blue shirt and everything! And finally, Sunday morning, we CITO the heck out of one of the local parks. There will also be another chance to chat with Signal, possibly involving donuts or similar, but we’ll see how early we want to get up.
Fancy plans and pants to match! And this doesn’t take into account any of the counties we’ll be hitting during that time or any of the other stops we’ll be making. And then, somewhere in all that, I’ve got to write a post while we’re out there! The weekend may be fuller than I really want. But then again, there are worse problems to have, no?
1I still call the section of the Texas Colorado River that flows through Austin “Town Lake,” even though its name was officially changed almost twenty years ago. Make of that what you will.
