The Girls are coming down this weekend and I wish there was a GIFF event I could take them to. While there is one over the weekend down in New Braunfels, it’s going to be too late in the weekend; they’ll have to head back to L-Town to early to attend. When will it come to the intertubes for viewing? Probably not before voting is done. Poopy.
All these darn Treasures still floating about! This may or may not make sense to you if you are a newer cacher, but the easier Treasures are actually some of the hardest for me to get. I’ve cached out pretty much all the low hanging fruit in Travis and Williamson Counties, so finding a 1.0/1.5 has been almost impossible for me; I’ve found them all! I think I ended up claiming an especially easy challenge to get that particular D/T. That’s why I found myself going for a beginner cache on neighboring Cedar Park. I frequently pop out of town to grab caches, but rarely in so intentional a way. The keybox hidden in a guard rail was the closest 2.0/1.0 to the city. It provided another piece of a puzzle piece Treasure I still haven’t completed. Terrain 1.0 caches are hard to come by for me these days, meaning I still have a couple more to go after all this time. What I really need is a chance to get away from this area to grab some easy ones and maybe fill in some of these Treasure holes. A few more Events probably wouldn’t kill me either.
How many of you have ever been involved in the planing of a Mega-Event? It ain’t no joke. If you ever plan one, I have two pieces of advice. First, do everything a month before you think you have to. I know that I’m not very behind in preparation, but I feel a little behind and any time I do something for myself not Mega related, I feel like I’m making it worse. Second, delegate and have a helpful team. The folks who have been helping me thus far have been troopers, and there are more people chomping at the bit to help with upcoming things. Get all the help you can and hope they’re half as enthusiastic as the team I have now.
That’s it. If you expected a dissection of Wittgenstein over chardonnay and canapes, I’m sorry to disappoint you. Today you get an orangutan hurling beer and pretzels.

I’ve never been to ANY Geocaching event, let alone attempted to help plan one. Maybe in a year or so when I feel more comfortable breaking into the existing groups. And grant yourself some grace: planning any type of event is going to take more out of you than you probably anticipated.
That said, I hope your Mega is phenomenal! I hope there will be photos posted somewhere to view!
