The Shelby County Courthouse was odd for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it was a long courthouse instead of a wide one, thus the short sides were entrances, and the long faces were side walls without them, which is pretty uncommon. Secondly, the name of the building was carved prominently into the side faces with no entrances, but on one side it looked as if maybe it had been mis-carved the first time so a section with “Shelby” had been replaced and then re-carved on the obviously different stone. That’s a new one as far as I can remember, but if it works for them it works for me.

Once again, all hail the humble LPC! And may I say that the cap in cap container, a shotgun shell base inside another base, was not what I expected. You would think that, with all the shotgun shell caches I’ve found all over Texas, I would have seen one like that before. I didn’t spend a lot of time thinking about it, though. I could feel that certain tiredness begin to seep into my muscles. Even though I got a good night’s sleep, it was not as long as I might have liked, thanks to the longer days of the northern climes. I spent a lot more time out caching (good!) so I got to the hotel and therefore to bed later (bad?). I was kept up a bit by fireworks, but unfortunately, I didn’t get to see any like in Moab or Denver a few years before and got up especially early to tackle my long drive between Ada and Madison. Add that I had been running myself raged in the days before all that and you can see where the feeling came from. The problem was that I couldn’t stop. I needed to be in Longview the next day and had places to go on the way there. So, I kept pushing forward (what else could I do?), working my way down to…
