246. Center, Shelby County

Well, this is new and different! The courthouse here in Center was built based on the design of an Irish castle. I didn’t even know that was a thing, but why not? It definitely makes for a unique courthouse so credit where credit is due. After all the similar ones I’ve seen, it’s always refreshing to see something new (unless of course it’s super modern and craptastic, but that’s a completely different issue altogether).

I didn’t really have time to lollygag about here. It seemed like I was burning daylight at an accelerated rate than I thought I would. Ever since Nacogdoches, I felt I was running behind somehow, but couldn’t figure out how. After Lufkin, I realized I actually was running behind and I still haven’t figured exactly why. Maybe I lost some time on the road somehow. I don’t know. But I had to make my last destination before sundown so I hoped I could make some of that time back up. I got to the job because I was on a special mission. Not just any cache would do here. I had to go rescue an old friend.


The cache itself was an ammo can hidden in the shrubbery of a house. Normally I wouldn’t touch something like that with the proverbial 10 foot pole. But, since it’s the home of a cacher and there wasn’t much in the way of obvious neighbors about, I figured it wouldn’t be too much of a risk. It was found, claimed, and the log returned. Hello, old friend! I had given this to a caching buddy to send off somewhere and he brought it to this cache and left it to go somewhere. Well, that was over a year ago and the cache only had one visitor in the meantime. Obviously they opted not to take it. So I had to go get it. Odds are low that I’ll get it too much closer to Wu, Wei, or Shu, but you’ve slept long enough. You’re coming with me!
