He’s Here! He’s There!

He’s every-BLANKin’-where!

Yesterday, my daily cache was in Kyle, another of the surrounding towns, this one to the south. Kyle occupies a weird niche for me. It’s close enough that I’m willing to go if I have to, but it’s far enough away that I don’t want to if I don’t have to. Part of that is because I have to drive through downtown Austin to get there, which is sometimes its own adventure. Part of it is that if I’ve gone all the way to Kyle, why not just keep going down to San Marcos?

An LPC behind an urgent care clinic was more than enough to do the job. The faux-digital rubber ducky was just a fun bit of icing on the cake.

A couple of days ago, I took an impromptu trip to Caldwell. I had planned on getting a cache while I was there (I was outside of my regular hunting grounds, so why not?), but I was foiled by the bane of so many small communities: poor cell service. That, combined with the Geocaching server issues a couple of days ago, thwarted me. I ended up having to get one at almost the last minute in Elgin (the far edge of my hunting grounds) on the way back to town.

I’ve noticed a definite uptick in my travel over the last couple of months, and not the intentional “grab some counties with the girls” trips but spur-of-the-moment, out-of-nowhere travel. Don’t get me wrong: I’m more than happy to do it because it’s usually for a good cause or a friend. But it seems to have bunched up in recent weeks. It’s not like I’m not going up to L-Town this weekend. And, barring weirdness, I should be in Brady and Brownwood next weekend. And who knows what could happen in between? Am I going to have to drive to Abilene this week? Or Edinburg? Or Pecos? At this point, it feels like anything could happen!
