Two Different Days

On Saturday, I took a drive up to Longview to see the girls. That also means I dragged them out to a cache. Ok, perhaps “dragged” is too strong a word, but that’s neither here nor there. The important part is that we took a walk along a trail and found a bowling ball serving as a holder for a bison tube. Invenimus, inscripsimus, reposuimus. This is where a feared possibility dropped in on us: it began to rain. It wasn’t unexpected (I took my umbrella along with us to the cache), but it confirmed the tenor of our day. The city is, unfortunately for us, kind of boring. There’s just not all that much for us there, so it’s not uncommon for us to go on little day trips. I already need to go back to Texarkana and the Dallas area. There’s also talk of visiting a tiger preserve up near Hugo. Shreveport is only an hour away. Heck, Jackson is only four hours and Memphis, five. But none of those were of any use under the same weather system. We were, like it or not, stuck with precipitation. That greatly limited our options. We managed to endure, and there was even an interesting discussion. Since Texas Challenge is going to be in Floresville next year, and my older daughter will have her driving permit, maybe she might drive a little while I navigate for the group competition. Or perhaps I’ll drive, and she’ll navigate. Either might be an option.

Sunday was a very different day. Having returned home, I attended an Event celebrating find number fifteen thousand for friend of the site Razorbackgirl. Thanks to the weather the day before, there was discussion about moving it, but the weather on Sunday was beautiful. Over twenty of us gathered from the local area and from far-off, exotic locations such as San Antonio and Lampasas. We had a potluck near Austin‘s troll installation. We ate of our collective bounty and discussed upcoming plans and desires. After some noshing, some of us who had not been to it yet took a short jaunt over to the troll herself for the Virtual. A few others went off for some of the other park caches, especially the one that required both a tree climb and water. We joked! We frolicked! Some of us even tried out the giant bounce globe treehouse! Good times!

So, that was my weekend. How was yours?

  1. Because you asked. We had business in Dallas. Since we, like many others, are now two stepping our way across the state we made several targeted stops to find non-traditional caches. Hill, Tarrant, Navarro and Freestone counties have now all been conquered. Finding Tombstone during Saturday’s rain and stopping for the virtual at the fruitcake factory in Corsicana were probably the two highlights.
